IDB Invest Environmental and Social Lead Officer (Environmental, Social & Governance Division)

Background: The Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance Division (SEG) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional who will provide technical support, direction, and leadership, in addition to ensuring financed operations are both environmentally and socially sustainable and in compliance with our Environmental and Social Sustainability Policy (ESSP).

The Team: The SEG Division is responsible for leading all aspects of governance policies and procedures, as well as reviewing and appraising proposed IDB Invest investments. The Division works with investment officers and clients to define steps necessary to address compliance gaps. Additionally, SEG seeks opportunities to contribute towards long-term developmental impact and sustainability while formulating recommendations and requirements for client action and client-related documentation.

What you will do: The broad task of this new Lead Officer is to support IDB Invest private-sector projects for countries in Latin American and the Caribbean countries (LAC), by ensuring that each of the operations to be financed are aligned with ESSP protocol. The Lead Officer will provide guidance on environmental safeguarding issues as a member of project teams, generally working alongside with other specialists from SEG. The main objective of this assignment would hone in on the agribusiness or infrastructure sectors, dependent upon specific applicant experience.

The selected Led Officer will:

  • Support the preparation and supervision of private sector operations focusing on the environmental, social and health, and safety aspects;

  • Guide the performance review of environmental safeguards and proposed operations and its documentation;

  • Provide technical advice and document preparation for projects under the review of the IDB Invest’s Independent Consultation and Investigation Mechanism;

  • Partner with internal and external clients to ensure that all necessary requirements are reflected in the corresponding loan documents;

  • Coordinate the activities performed by the Independent SEG Consultant; 

  • Advise IDB Invest and its clients on project compliance with local and international requirements;

What you will need:

 

Education:  You hold a master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy, or relevant field.

 

Experience: You have a minimum of six years of relevant professional experience related to environmental and social impact assessments, stakeholder mapping and engagement strategies,  as well as prior private sector consultation.

 

Languages: Oral and written proficiency in at least two of the four official languages of IDB Invest (English, Spanish, Portuguese or French).

  • Location: Sao Paulo, Brazil; Mexico City, Mexico; Panama City, Panama; Buenos Aires, Argentina; or another IDB Invest field office in Latin America, dependent on business needs.
