International Water Management Institute (IWMI) seeks services of a consultant with a PhD/MSc degree in socio-economic, irrigation engineering or similar discipline to undertake a short term assignment under IWMI’s “Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Small-Scale Irrigation (ILSSI)” Project.

Project Background

The Feed the Future Innovation Laboratory for Small Scale Irrigation (ILSSI) project Phase II is starting in Ghana and Ethiopia with focuses on increasing profitable, sustainable and gender-sensitive irrigation to support inclusive agricultural growth, resilient food systems, and nutrition and health outcomes, particularly for vulnerable populations. The ILSSI project takes a partnership approach to research using mixed and inter-disciplinary methods while strengthening public and private institutional and individual capacity to continue to use effective scientific tools and methods into the future.

Objective of the Assignment

Main objectives of the assignment are to accomplish the implementation of private-sector-related activities in ILSSI projects in Ghana during August to October 2019, including:

  • Qualitative survey with private and public sector to identify information requirements that would enable different types of solar irrigation interventions (Activity 1.1.1 in IWMI research plan)
  • Identification of SSI scaling pathways (through reviewing literature to analyze SSI innovation system in Ghana and Ethiopia) (Activity 1.3.3)
  • Facilitate dialogues between key stakeholders to strengthen SSI scaling (Activity 1.3.4)

Scope of Work

Within three months (August to October 2019), the consultant needs to implement the following tasks in Ghana:

  • Qualitative survey with private and public sector to identify information requirements that would enable different types of solar irrigation interventions
  • Facilitation of ILSSI2 introduction to SSI scaling stakeholder platforms
  • Pre assessment of work for ILSSI innovation scholarship in Ghana

Deliverables/Outputs

  • Pre assessment of work for ILSSI innovation scholarship in Ghana
  • Facilitating dialogues between key stakeholders to strengthen SSI scaling
  • Qualitative survey with private and public sector to identify information requirements that would enable different types of solar irrigation interventions

Contract duration will be approximately 03 months.
