Agriculture and Rural Development Division

The Agriculture and Rural Development division at UNIQUE offers high quality analytical skills and advisory services. Further, we provide technical assistance and implement development programs. Key topics we work on include sustainable intensification of agricultural production, development of inclusive and sustainable business models, innovation systems, and value chains, and the development of monitoring systems for the quantification of environmental impacts of agriculture and livestock production.

UNIQUE’s Trainee Program

UNIQUE’s trainee program offers graduates and young professional entry into an international and multidisciplinary consulting company. The term usually lasts 12-18 months. During this time, trainees are exposed to various departments within UNIQUE to gain insights into the company and into the full cycle of project management.

We offer flexible working hours as well as exciting and varied tasks in a positive atmosphere. The position will be based at our headquarters in Freiburg. In this intensive training period, experienced senior consultants will support you and you will gain first-hand experience in all aspects of the business. The aim is to start at UNIQUE as a junior consultant after successfully completing the trainee program.

Sustainable Livestock Production Trainee Requirements

UNIQUE’s Agriculture and Rural Development Division seeks to recruit a Trainee in the field of sustainable livestock production. UNIQUE regularly undertakes assignments related to livestock production and livestock value chains, and also has a major ongoing project related to greenhouse gas emissions from ruminants in East Africa, with a particular focus on monitoring aspects. We are thus looking to build our staff capacity in this field, and seek to hire a highly motivated trainee that meets the following requirements:

  • A completed Masters’ degree in the field(s) of animal sciences (e.g. animal production systems, animal nutrition).
  • A keen interest in socio-economic and environmental issues in developing countries is vital.
  • Knowledge of greenhouse gas emissions from livestock and related guidance from the UNFCCC and IPCC would be an advantage.
  • Ability to quickly familiarize yourself with complex topics.
  • High degree of initiative.
  • Enjoy working in an international team, and willingness to travel to project countries (e.g. in East Africa).
  • Good communication skills.
  • Languages: Fluency (written and spoken) in English is required. German and/or French would be an additional asset.
